Hi Zhen,
Is it possible to get VS 2015 version COONECT SDK?
It'ss probably a misconception how C++ application are built and how applications for MicroStation works. MicroStation itself is built using Visual Studio 2013, so there cannot be anything like "VS 2015 version of MicroStation SDK". MicroStation itself rules what compiler can be used because it has to be compatible with how MicroStation was built.
If in the future, you decide to use anther version of VS to compile CONNECT SDK, we have to buy another version of VS?
Your question contains several different topics:

  • "you decide to use" ... Bentley will decide to use newer compiler in future for sure, maybe because of better performance, maybe because of 3rd party library (like Parasolid) will required this compiler. It's how software development world works.
  • "to compile CONNECT SDK" ... As I wrote already, it's not about CONNECT SDK but about MicroStation itself. The SDK is just publicly described API of MicroStation itself, nothing more.
  • "we have to buy" ... It's your decision, not Bentley, what will you do in future. You can e.g. try to use Visual Studio Community Edition that is free for open source projects and non-enterprise development teams. I have not tested it (have no reason to do it), but it seems VS CE is pretty the same as Professional Edition including VS extensions etc, so my assumption is it would be possible (maybe with some tweaking) to use it with MicroStation SDK CE also.
On the other hand, if you are serious about development, it's expected to pay for some level of MSDN program, which brings some extra benefit (free dev license for the most of MS products, free time on Azure ... great for testing MicroStation with different Windows versions etc.) and in such case you don't have to buy a new license, because it's covered by MSDN programm.

I don't understand this question, the current MicroStation SDK CONNECT Edition requires Visual Studio 2013 Professional.

With regards,

  Jan
