There is a small terminology problem that can lead to some confusion potentially: If you wrote "import to temple", many MicroStation people will be not sure what you are talking about, because both words (template is something else in MicroStation) and used workflow (import to template) sound strange and unusual.
I agree with Jon the most simple (and often used) solution is to merge reference file into active model. In such case the workflow will be:
- Copy your seed file (it's what you named template) into a new file with required output name.
- Open the newly created file.
- Attach source file as a reference, choose a proper model if there are more of them.
- Merge reference to the active model (standard reference files functionality).
- Check if the result is correct or some configuration should be changed.
It's the first and mandatory step to be able to simulate the whole workflow manually. Until it will be correct there is no reason to discuss how to automate it.
